Community Sauna has gone on to open four additional locations
Since launching its first site in East London in 2021, Community Sauna has expanded to include four additional locations across the capital. Managing director Charlie Duckworth noted that the growth followed a period of challenging negotiations with landlords and initial fundraising difficulties. While the expansion has been popular with local residents, building delays and the high capital requirements of launching new sites meant the not-for-profit venture did not reach profitability in 2025.
Despite these financial hurdles, the organization maintains a heavy focus on social integration, allocating four percent of its turnover to community impact. This includes a dedicated team to manage outreach and a program that provides ten funded sessions for individuals referred by the NHS. Beyond health-focused sessions, the venues host a variety of social programming, such as live DJ sets and poetry evenings, aimed at maintaining the spaces as accessible community hubs rather than exclusive wellness clubs.
