Every Sauna in Southwark: The Complete Guide

Southwark has 13 saunas stretching from Peckham to London Bridge. Here's what's there, what's good, and where to start.

The London Sauna·

Southwark has thirteen saunas. That makes it south London's most sauna-dense borough by a comfortable margin, and one of the most interesting anywhere in the city.

What makes it worth paying attention to isn't just the numbers. It's the spread. You've got community-run wood-fired saunas in parks, a Finnish church basement with authentic löyly, a purpose-built social sauna under the railway arches in Peckham, and a premium recovery hub steps from London Bridge station. The venues are scattered across Peckham, Camberwell, Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Elephant & Castle, and Tower Bridge — each neighbourhood bringing its own character to the borough's sauna scene.

Here's every one of them.

The Social Saunas

These are the places where the sauna itself is the point. No gym membership, no hotel stay. You book a session, you sweat, you plunge, you leave feeling better than when you arrived.

Community Sauna Baths, Ruskin Park

Community Sauna Baths, Ruskin Park

Community Sauna Baths is the Ruskin Park outpost of London's most important community sauna organisation. Three wood-fired saunas surrounded by parkland, with plunge pools for cold immersion. It's the most serene setting of any sauna in the borough — tucked into the park, nature on all sides, smoke drifting from the chimneys.

Sessions start around £9.50, which keeps it accessible. The vibe is community-first, like all CSB venues. If you want to understand what south London's sauna scene is about, this is ground zero.

Sauna Social Club, Peckham

Sauna Social Club, Peckham

Sauna Social Club operates under the railway arches on Brayards Road. Two saunas — one labelled "Chatting," the other "Silent" with a high-fidelity sound system. Four ice baths for cold immersion. It's a clever setup that acknowledges the two things people actually want from a social sauna: conversation and quiet contemplation.

Sessions run £14–£24.99 depending on timing. The Peckham location gives it an energy that's distinct from the more pastoral CSB sites.

Urban Heat, Camberwell

Urban Heat, Camberwell

Urban Heat is a newer social wellness space on Camberwell Station Road. A 15-seater Finnish-style electric sauna and two outdoor ice baths. It's smaller and more intimate than the Peckham options, with a neighbourhood feel that suits Camberwell well.

Packs start from around £14.50 per session. Still finding its feet, but the early signs are promising.

Finnish Church in London, Rotherhithe

Finnish Church in London — traditional sauna

Finnish Church in London is the most unusual sauna in the borough — possibly in all of London. A traditional wood-panelled sauna in the basement of a Finnish church on Albion Street in Rotherhithe. This is authentic löyly: the real Finnish tradition, maintained by a community that's been practising it long before London's sauna boom.

It's not a commercial operation in the way the others are. Check their schedule for session times. If you care about sauna culture and heritage, this is a pilgrimage.

The Recovery Hubs

WellNest, London Bridge

WellNest, London Bridge

WellNest is a premium wellness hub on St Thomas Street, steps from London Bridge station. Two Nordic-style dry saunas and two cold plunge pools in a purpose-built contrast therapy zone. The fit-out is high-spec, the programming is structured, and the location makes it convenient for anyone working in the area.

Membership starts from £119 per month. It's positioned at the premium end, but the facilities justify the price if you're going to use them regularly.

Bermondsey Wellness

Bermondsey Wellness is part of the Bermondsey Hub facilities on Drummond Road. A Finnish sauna alongside specialised sports massage and recovery equipment. It's focused squarely on athletic recovery rather than the social sauna experience — the kind of place where you go after training, not instead of it.

The Boutique Spas

One Spa London, Tower Bridge

One Spa London, Tower Bridge

One Spa London is a boutique urban retreat within The Circle complex near Tower Bridge. A thermal suite with both a Finnish sauna and an infrared sauna, giving you options depending on your preference. The setting is polished and the experience is more private than the social saunas.

Good for a date night or a solo session when you want something quieter and more curated.

Axis Wellness, Tower Bridge

Axis Wellness is also at The Circle, operating as the gym and spa facility. A traditional sauna, steam room, and a 17-metre pool. It bridges the gap between a gym spa and a standalone wellness venue — more substance than most gym saunas, without the price tag of the dedicated social spaces.

The Leisure Centres

These are the council-run options. Cheap, reliable, and open to everyone. Don't underestimate them.

Peckham Pulse

Peckham Pulse is Southwark's flagship "Healthy Living Centre" on Melody Lane. A poolside health suite with a sauna, steam room, and warm hydrotherapy pool. The standout detail: sauna access can be free for Southwark residents when combined with a swim session.

If you live in the borough and want regular heat exposure without spending a fortune, this is the obvious choice.

The Castle Centre, Elephant & Castle

The Castle Centre is Southwark Council's major facility in Elephant & Castle. A modern health suite with a sauna and multiple steam rooms. It's functional rather than atmospheric, but it does the job and the price is right.

Hotel & Gym Saunas

London Bridge Hotel

London Bridge Hotel is an independent four-star hotel on London Bridge Street with a compact fitness suite that includes a traditional wood-lined sauna. It's primarily for hotel guests, so this is either useful for a stay or not relevant to you.

Fitness First Cottons, London Bridge

Fitness First Cottons is the flagship London Bridge branch on Tooley Street. A refurbished health suite with a wood-lined sauna and steam room, plus a 20-metre swimming pool. Membership runs around £115 per month. As gym saunas go, it's one of the better-maintained ones in the area.

Kings Gym Tower Bridge

Kings Gym Tower Bridge is a high-performance training facility on Tooley Street. A poolside health suite with a high-heat dry sauna and steam room. It's a gym-first venue, but the sauna is a proper one — hot enough to satisfy anyone who takes their heat seriously.

Where to Start

If you've never been to a sauna in Southwark:

  • On a budget: Peckham Pulse. Free for Southwark residents with a swim, and a solid health suite.
  • For the social experience: Sauna Social Club. The chatting-and-silent sauna split is a genuinely good idea.
  • In a park: Community Sauna Baths, Ruskin Park. Wood-fired saunas surrounded by nature.
  • For recovery: WellNest. Premium contrast therapy in a purpose-built facility.
  • For something unique: Finnish Church in London. Authentic löyly in a church basement. Nothing else like it.
  • Just regularly: The Castle Centre or Peckham Pulse. Cheap, local, consistent.

Southwark's sauna scene is different from Hackney's. It's less concentrated, more spread out across distinct neighbourhoods, and quieter about it. But the quality is there — particularly at the social end, where venues like Sauna Social Club and Community Sauna Baths are doing some of the most interesting work in London. And the Finnish Church is simply one of the most authentic sauna experiences you'll find anywhere in the country.
